Dreamweaver
This course steers you through the essential aspects of website creation and gives you the practical skills to develop and maintain your own website using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. You will learn the basics of formatting text, creating hyperlinks, adding images, as well as importing Flash movies and video clips. The use of CSS templates to quickly arrive at finished web sites will be explored. The popular art of blogging with Word Press will also be demonstrated.
NOTE: Some basic familiarity
with basic multimedia programs (i.e., Powerpoint) is required.

A2/B2 – Creative Darkroom Techniques
This hands-on printing workshop will investigate a variety of techniques that alter or distort traditional silver
images in creative ways. Techniques include high-contrast litho film, sabattier effects, chemical manipulation, combination
printing, enlarger zooming, vignetting and painting with light. Participants should have previous darkroom printing skills and
bring a variety of negatives.

A3/B3 – Ambrotype
Go back in time and experience the historical process of the ambrotype. Participants will be guided through the creation of images using an enlarger and slides. In addition to hearing a brief introduction about the history of the modern ambrotype, participants will work in the darkroom and ultimately create three ambrotypes of their own. Note: Darkroom experience is necessary. Bring your own slides.

A4/B4 – Colour Managed Workflow
Do you want to cut down on the costs of printing? Do you want to maintain accurate, consistent colour from capture to screen to print? This workshop will enable you set up a colour managed workflow that will allow you to do both. We will cover the basics of colour management, creating and using monitor and printer profiles and learning how to use them in soft-proofing. You will also learn how to set-up Photoshop to take best advantage of a colour managed workflow.

A5 –Critical Digital
Critical Digital looks at using modern digital technologies in an objective and critical way. Alternative strategies and methods using digital will be emphasized. Both workshop and classroom assignment ideas feature participatory, creative approaches to the ways that digital technologies can affect artistic results. These approaches address diversities such as site, audience, and experience across a variety of disciplines, such as drawing, sculpture, installation, integrated media, criticism, and curatorial practice. Analyzing and critically assessing digital technologies are the points of departure and the means to an end in this workshop.

A6 – Intermediate Photoshop: Processing Digital Camera Images
This workshop will explore the steps necessary to prepare digital camera images for print. Using Photoshop participants will process RAW format and JPEG images, perform tone and colour correction, sharpen, retouch, and colour manage images for print and for archiving. (Basic knowledge of Photoshop required.)

A7 – Lightroom in the Classroom
A hands-on introduction to using Photoshop Lightroom in the classroom. Importing, processing, and managing images will be incorporated into a photographic workflow. The steps will parallel what is done in a traditional darkroom. Although Lightroom is the new kid on the block, the basic concepts follow time-proven techniques.

A8 – Introduction to InDesign
Are you creating a book, catalogue, flyer, poster, or yearbook? This workshop will introduce you to the robust publishing software InDesign. Now considered industry standard for printing and publishing, InDesign is intuitive and powerful. You’ll work hands-on with this application and achieve a working knowledge of its tools and capabilities. No prior knowledge of publishing applications is necessary, although basic computer skills would be beneficial.

A9 – From Bitmap to Vector: An Introduction to Illustrator CS3
The following workshop will bridge photography with the possibilities of Illustrator. Learn basic Illustrator tools when importing, tracing and manipulating bitmap images - the same tools shared by other vector programs such as Flash. View the practical applications of Illustrator in creating graphics for web and print as well as character design and animation. Teacher-created projects, ideas, and resources will be shared.

A10 – Hand Colouring of Black-and-White Photographs
This workshop is a unique approach to offering students an innovative and highly creative means of hand colouring black-and-white photographs. It will introduce participants to basic and advanced techniques of hand colouring that are at once stimulating, economical, and fun for the student. The instructor will provide materials and photographs for workshop application. Participants may also bring their own non-glossy prints to colour.

A11 – Lighting 101
Light is the heart of photography and understanding it is paramount to the success of any photographic process. In this workshop there will be a brief discussion of basic lighting techniques using basic lighting equipment in traditional and digital environments. A lighting demonstration will focus on both portraiture and still life.

A12 – DIY Podcasting
Discover the teaching and learning possibilities of podcasts and their connections to curriculum in this hands-on workshop. You will be introduced to the basics of planning, creating, and publishing a podcast. Using GarageBand, you will record and edit your podcast. You will also explore the inclusion of other media, such as photography, to create enhanced podcasts.
