B5 – What to Know: Portfolios, Submissions, Exhibitions
This workshop will include: what to consider when creating a portfolio; how to maximize portfolio potential for different applications and submissions; the importance of editing and sequencing; artist statements; and exhibition preparation. This workshop offers viable information for use in the classroom as well as for teachers who are practising artists.

B6 – Producing Newscasts: Video Journalism in the Classroom

This workshop offers suggestions for how to engage your students in video journalism. Participants will be given project ideas, handouts, and rubrics for evaluating the way young people can create original stories about the real world around them. Help your students identify and replicate the codes, conventions, and production techniques used to create meaning in online and broadcast news.

B7 – Lighting 101

Light is the heart of photography and understanding it is paramount to the success of any photographic process. In this workshop there will be a brief discussion on basic lighting techniques using basic lighting equipment in traditional and digital environments. A lighting demonstration will focus on both portraiture and still life.This is a repeat of A11.

B8 – Modern Panorama Technology

This workshop will discuss various means of creating panoramas. Special cameras and accessories for taking panoramas will be demonstrated along with modern image stitching software. The making of gigapixel panoramas using the GigaPan Imager robotic camera mount will be demonstrated.

B9 – New Pathways in Media Arts

This workshop will begin with brief overview of the new college/university and workplace stream in Media Arts. An array of thematic lesson plans and activities with a series of student samples will then be shared, along with a collaborative web-based curriculum resource. The workshop will be both instructional and collaborative, will be of interest to teachers of Media Arts, Computers, and Art, as well as teachers of both still and moving digital imaging programs.

B10 – Intermediate InDesign
Take your basic knowledge of InDesign to the next level. You'll work hands-on and discover many time-saving techniques including automation. You'll also discover the most common errors in preparing files for proper output and how to fix them. The interchange between Photoshop files and InDesign will also be covered. Some prior knowledge of InDesign would be beneficial.

B11 – The Magic of Pinhole Photography

This slide lecture will explore the history, art, and science behind pinhole photography. Dianne will discuss the early development of the camera obscura and its impact on the artists and art of the Renaissance, and its continued evolution from a drawing device to a photo making device in the 1800’s and its reemergence in the 20th Century. Work by international contemporary artists using pinhole photography will be shown and discussed.

B12 – Media Literacy and Youth Culture

Does our media saturated culture provide a reflection or a myth of young people of today? In this workshop we will engage in activities that help to develop critical thinking skills in media literacy to explore and challenge the way that youth are presented to us.
