A1/B1/C1 – Introduction to Adobe Dreamweaver
This course steers you through the essential aspects of website creation and gives you the practical skills to develop and maintain your own website using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. You will learn the basics of formatting text, creating hyperlinks, adding images, as well as importing Flash movies and video clips. The use of CSS templates to quickly arrive at finished websites will be explored. The popular art of blogging with wordpress.com will also be demonstrated. note: Some familiarity with basic multimedia programs (i.e., PowerPoint) is required.

A2/B2 – Ambrotypes
Go back in time and experience the historical process of the ambrotype. Participants will be guided through the creation of images using the enlarger and slides. Participants will work in the darkroom, ultimatley creating three ambrotypes of their own in addition to hearing a brief introduction to the history of the modern ambrotype. NOTE: Darkroom experience is necessary. Bring your slides.

A3 – Photo Book Ideas for the Classroom
From the printed page to the screen, we will discuss the evolution of the photo book with an eye to what the future of that book might look like. In discussing contemporary book ideas, we will talk about editing strategies, using photographs and text together, the use of blogs, Tumblr and Flickr as a story telling device. The goal is to inspire with ideas and projects that teachers can adapt for use in their classrooms.

A4 – Intermediate Photoshop
This workshop will explore the steps necessary to prepare digital camera images for print. Participants will use Photoshop to process RAW format and JPEG images, perform tone and colour correction, sharpen, retouch, and colour-manage images for print and for archiving. NOTE: Basic knowledge of Photoshop required.

A5 – Introduction to Photoshop Lightroom

A practical guide to using and optimizing the Photoshop LightRoom digital darkroom experience. From import to output this workshop will delve into the many facets of Lightroom and expand your understanding of how to best utilize and customize this software to your needs. Go beyond basic darkroom techniques and learn how this tool can help you develop, organize, and deliver your photographs easily and quickly.

A6 – InDesign 101

Are you creating a book, catalogue, flyer, poster, or yearbook? This workshop will introduce you to the robust publishing software InDesign. Now considered industry ‘standard for’ printing and publishing, InDesign is intuitive and powerful. You will work hands-on with this application and achieve a working knowledge of its tools and capabilities. NOTE: No prior knowledge of publishing applications is necessary, althoughn basic computer skills would be beneficial.

A7 – Photoshop Quick Start

This workshop will begin to develop your understanding of Photoshop. By the end of this workshop you will be comfortable introducing your students to a variety of techniques. You will walk away with assignments and lessons that you can implement directly into your teaching. This is a beginner workshop. Bring a memory stick.

A8 – DIY Podcasting

Discover the teaching and learning possibilities of podcasts and their connections to curriculum in this hands-on workshop. You will be introduced to the basics of planning,
creating, and publishing a podcast. Using GarageBand, you will record and edit your podcast. You will also explore the inclusion of other media, such as photography, to create enhanced podcasts.

A9 – The Critique Conundrum
The photo critique can be an invaluable classroom tool, an opportunity for students to show their work and obtain feedback from both their peers and teacher. Yet, the critique is not valuable if students are afraid to talk or only say, “I like it”. This workshop will facilitate discussion on how to look at images, how to discuss images and how to find the language so students will feel safe to talk, staying away from just the “I like it” mentality.

A10 – Apple iMovie '11

This everyday digital media has become more important as a means for receiving, producing, sharing, and broadcasting information. Knowledge of the rules and grammar of movie production, broadcasting, and media presentation is a new powerful literacy. Join us for an introduction to Apple’s iMovie 11' in a hands-on setting, and leave with a good sense of how you can use this powerful tool with your students in your classroom.

A11 – Lighting
The focus of this workshop will be the understanding and manipulation of light. Emphasis will be placed on the control of available light as well as the configuration of studio lighting or product and people photography. Advertising images will be analyzed to understand how light is used to accentuate the message.
